These Air Fryer English Muffin Pizzas are perfect for a tasty lunch or an easy-to-make dinner! A delicious choice no matter if you keep them simple, using store-bought ingredients, or take them to the next level using my Fresh Almond Mozzarella and one of my homemade sauce choices.
I owe this recipe to my hairdresser. I look forward to my appointment every other month when I get to sit in a chair and chat with the lovely Laura for two hours. She’s been doing my hair for over four years, and aside from the fact that she does an awesome job on my do, I also keep coming back because we have the best conversations.
I think part of the reason why we get along so well, is because she’s a foodie, like me. Food isn’t all we talk about, but it definitely comes up every time. When I was in her chair last, she was telling me about how she’d recently bought an air fryer. I love my air fryer, and so we started sharing with one another the different items we’ve made.
Laura mentioned making pizzas for the kids out of pita bread. I thought that was the best idea and I couldn’t wait to try it! In my fridge, I had some pesto that needed to be used, so I decided I’d use it and try making the pita pizzas for lunch the next day.
Unfortunately, when I went to Ralph’s to buy my gluten-free pita bread, they were all out! I was super disappointed because I had my heart set on trying to make those mini pizzas. Then it dawned on me, why not use English muffins?! I checked the freezer aisle and was pleased to find, not only did they carry gluten-free English muffins, they were vegan as well (be careful because many brands contain egg)!
I didn’t see why these shouldn’t work in the air fryer as well. All it would take would be to figure out the temperature and time. I was able to find out the magic numbers, and made these delicious pizzas using my Root Greens Pesto, Daiya Mozzarella Shreds, black olives, and halved cherry tomatoes.
My next time making these, I made my own cheese, using my Fresh Almond Mozzarella recipe, and tried them with many different sauces and veggie choices. So good, as still so easy.
How easy you want these depends on you. If you simply grab some Daiya and a jar of pizza sauce, these can be assembled and cooked in only about 10 minutes! Alternatively, you can take a little more time, making my homemade cheese (easy recipe, just make sure to soak your almonds!), and your favorite sauce. I provide recipes for a super simple pizza sauce, basil pesto, root greens pesto, barbeque sauce, and vegan ranch dressing. All are great on pizza and depending on the toppings you choose the possibilities are endless!
The English muffins I buy are made by Food For Life. They come frozen, so I either need to remember ahead of time to leave them out for defrosting, or I’ve also popped them in the microwave on defrost when in a hurry. If you look online, there are a couple of other brands which are gluten-free and do not contain animal products.
I think most of us know how to assemble a pizza. First, we slice the English muffins in half, add some sauce, cheese, and then whatever toppings you would like. Now you can pop them in the air fryer where they cook for only four to six minutes!
I don’t know the size of everyone’s air fryers, so this recipe I’m writing for only four pizzas. However, I’m able to squeeze six in mine. My air fryer, by Nu Wave, has an additional cooking rack so I can cook two layers of food at once. I can tightly fit four pizzas on the bottom, plus two more on top. The top cooks a little faster, leaving pizzas ready in just four minutes, where the bottom takes a couple of minutes longer. If you have a smaller air fryer, or if you do not have a top rack, you may have to do your pizzas in two batches. Good thing they cook so quickly!
For my photos, I included some of my favorite combinations. I did ones with red sauce with eggplant, mushrooms, onion, bell pepper, and fresh basil — vegan ranch with garlic, zucchini, spinach, and sundried tomato — barbecue sauce with pineapple, jalepeño, and fresh cilantro — and pesto with black olives and grape tomatoes! The pesto combo I’ve used both my basil pesto and my root greens pesto for, both work incredibly well!

Air Fryer English Muffin Pizzas (Vegan/GF)
Ingredients
Choose one sauce…
- 1/4 cup Easy Peasy Pizza Sauce or store-bought pizza sauce of choice (ensure vegan)
- 1/4 cup Tiff’s BBQ Sauce or store-bought BBQ sauce of choice (ensure vegan)
- 1/4 cup Vegan Ranch Dressing or store-bought vegan ranch (I like Follow Your Heart’s)
- 1/4 cup Basil Pesto or basil pesto of choice (ensure vegan)
- 1/4 cup Root Greens Pesto
Everything else…
- 2 English muffins, gluten-free if necessary (ensure vegan) Sliced in halves, defrosted if frozen
- 1/2 batch Fresh Almond Mozzarella or store-bought vegan mozzarella shreds
- favorite pizza toppings; veggies, fruits, or faux meats
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
- On each English muffin half, spread 2 – 3 teaspoons of preferred sauce.
- If using my Fresh Almond Mozzarella, spread a large spoonful on each pizza. If using store-bought shreds, sprinkle a tablespoon or two over each pizza.
- Add your favorite toppings to each pizza.
- Place pizzas in the preheated air fryer for 4 – 6 minutes. If you have an inserted rack for cooking two levels of food, the top level is usually ready in 4 minutes, where the bottom pizzas should take closer to 6 (check after 4 minutes, regardless).
These are simple and yummy! I ate one as a healthy and filling snack, and you can eat more as a meal. I like how versatile the toppings are to meet everyone’s taste preferences.
